Christmas is right around the corner.
I was curious about some of the Biblical prophecies that predicted Jesus’ birth. How cool is it that God gave signs and messages through the years that the Great Rescuer was coming! He let people know that He was going to send a Savior who would finally right all the wrongs and restore fellowship with Him.
As you read some of the prophecies today, I hope they encourage you like they have me that our Great God can be counted on. He can be trusted. When He makes a promise, He always keeps it, even down to the smallest detail!
How many people have you heard of that have been able to predict someone else’s birth?
I don’t know of any–besides God.
And God did it multiple times through multiple people in multiples books of the Bible.
Here are some of the prophecies that were written hundreds of years before Jesus was born about His birth.
“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth and will call him Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14
Promise.
“The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him ‘Immanuel‘—which means, ‘God with us.’” Matthew 1:23
Fulfilled.
“Marshal your troops, O city of troops, for a siege is laid against us. They will strike Israel’s ruler on the cheek with a rod. But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.” Micah 5:1-2
Promise.
“So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.” Luke 2:4-7
Fulfilled.
“The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs and the obedience of the nations is his.” Genesis 49:10
Promise.
“A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord—and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.” Isaiah 11:1-3
Promise.
“’The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will raise up to David, a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what it just and right in the land. In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which he will be called: The Lord Our Righteousness.’” Jeremiah 23:5
Promise.
“A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham…Jacob the father of Judah…and Jesse the father of King David.” Matthew 1:1,2,6
Fulfilled.
God keeps His promises. Every single promise He makes, He fulfills.
Our God can be trusted!
Let’s celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ together this Christmas!
Here is a link to a Christmas advent podcast you can listen to for a few minutes each day if you want to. Our small group leader shared it with our class. 🙂
