A Better Mirror

How many times a day do we check our appearances in a mirror? We look in a mirror in the mornings to do our hair and make up. We look in mirrors all throughout the day and tweak things when we notice something out of place.

Because of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice on the cross, we have access to another mirror, a better mirror– a mirror for our souls.

God’s Word.

When we look in the mirror of His Word, we find Him in the pages of scripture. There we can look upon Him with unveiled faces and behold His glory. As we behold Him and get to know Him, we fall in love with Him.

The mirror of His Word also reveals areas of sin in our lives that need to be adjusted and cleansed. As we keep gazing into His Word, allowing His truth to penetrate and change us, we find our image being transformed from glory to glory. We begin to look more like Him.

Finally, we find ourselves in the mirror God’s Word. We were created in God’s image as it says in Genesis 1:27. Our identities are wrapped up in Him. So many people struggle with their identities. They don’t know who they are or what they were created to be. May I suggest that maybe they are looking in the wrong mirrors? The world offers many mirrors, but no matter how much we tweak our lives to fit the world’s standards, we will never measure up.

Only the Creator knows the purposes for His creation. When we take time to get to know our Creator, our purpose and identity will become clear.

So let’s start looking into a better mirror. Let’s check the mirror of His Word before we check any others.

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”  2 Corinthians 3:18

What mirror are you looking in?

You will become what you behold.
