No More Pity Parties

Guest post by Ellie McNier

“Not so, my lord,” Hannah replied, “I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the Lord. Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief.”

1 Samuel 1:15-16

Hannah was miserable because she was unable to have children. But instead of throwing a pity party, she poured out her heart to the Lord. She knew others were watching, but she was not worried about what they thought.

She cared more about what God thought.

When I am suffering I need to stop trying to fix myself. Stop throwing my own pity parties. I need to pour my heart out to the Lord, regardless if people are watching me.

God, help me to stop being prideful, bring me to my knees in front of You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
