Today’s post is by Ellie McNier. Ellie is a sophomore in high school who goes to my church. I’ve had the privilege of watching her grow through the years into a beautiful young lady who loves Jesus with all her heart! It is an honor to share her devotional today on flawednforgiven.

One of my favorite sayings is, “When choosing between being nice or being kind, choose kindness.”
Matthew 1:19 says, “And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly.”
Joseph chose to be kind. Not only did he not have Mary stoned, he cared about her feelings. He didn’t want Mary to be embarrassed or disgraced. If I was Joseph, I would have been angry and bitter. I would want justice to be served.
I would want to be right!
This verse shows the character of Joseph. It is not always easy to choose kindness, but Joseph did. As I go through life, my feelings are going to get hurt, and I will be upset. But I will remember this verse, and I will choose kindness, because I never know what someone is going through. I never know the “whole story.” I also know that because of Jesus, I have been shown more mercy, love, and kindness than I could ever deserve.
Let’s choose kindness this Holiday season.
