An Unquenchable Fire

A few years ago during the Christmas season, we drove through Jellystone Park to look at Christmas lights. I couldn’t help but notice the beautiful “Christian” Christmas songs that played on the radio as the lights danced to their rhythm.

Christ was being glorified.

Then we went over to the Opryland Hotel and watched the fountain show. The theme of the fountain show was Jesus’ birth. As the music played, a pre-recorded voice read the Christmas story from scripture. We watched in awe as the water changed from color to color. Then the 80 foot fountain in the center rose in climatic suspension as we listened to the powerful words of Isaiah 9:6: “And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Christ was being exalted.

Then we went outside the Opryland Hotel to look at the beautiful Christmas decorations. Right smack dab on the front lawn of the hotel was a display of an enormous white nativity scene. Once again, a recording of the scripture of Christ’s birth was being read aloud for all to hear.

Christ was being honored.

I find it interesting that as much as Satan tries to downplay and demean the true meaning of Christmas…he can’t! With all the controversy every year of what to do about the Christ of Christmas, Christ is still being honored in pockets all over the world.

With every little flame Satan tries to stamp out, new ones pop up and take off like wildfire.

Sure, Satan gets lots of attention. He likes the limelight. He flaunts his work in the media. He’s been working overtime for years doing everything he can to get “Merry Christmas” changed to something else–anything else but Christ!

He might win a few battles, but he’s already lost the war.

Over 2,000 years ago, God’s son was born to an ordinary couple. There was no “Breaking News” report, no tweet, no world-wide media attention. He was born in a very small town. He was born among lowly animals. The first people to hear of His birth were common shepherds.

And now just look at how the story of Christ’s birth has spread across our world!

How can this be?

God doesn’t need the big flashy billboards or media attention. He doesn’t need the “Who’s Who” following Him on Facebook or Twitter. He could care less about all that!

See something truly significant happens to those who encounter the Christ of Christmas. When they call upon His name and surrender their lives to Him. When they allow Him to become the Lord of their lives and take up permanent residence in their hearts. He ignites a fire of passion inside their hearts that burns hot, deep, strong and continuously.

Those who have felt its flame know its power. This unquenchable fire holds the power of life, peace, joy, forgiveness, and happiness!

Try as he may, Satan cannot put out that fire!

You want to know what I think Satan fears the most?

It is not so much the Christ in Christmas–it’s the Christ in YOU.

In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.  John 1:4-5
