Here is a list of a few of the many benefits from taking time to read, meditate, and memorize God’s Word.

  1. Meditation and memorization will keep you from sin.

“I have stored up Your Word in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” Psalm 119:11

  1. Meditation and memorization will transform your thinking.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:2

  1. Meditation and memorization will equip you to share your testimony.

“But in you hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.” 1 Peter 3:15

  1. Meditation and memorization will provide direction for your life.

“Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105

“And now I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.” Acts 20:32

  1. Meditation and memorization equip you to fight temptation.

“And the tempter came and said to him, ‘If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.’ But he answered, ‘It is written, Man shall not live by bead alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 3:3-4

Memorization Tip

Pray God’s Word

Years ago I read a book by Beth Moore called “Praying God’s Word.” In it she shared several scriptures on different topics that she turned into prayers. I have a list of verses that I pray daily over my family.  I also have verses of praise. Here are a few of the verses that I have turned into prayers. If you would like the complete list, let me know, and I will be happy to email them to you.

Prayers of Praise

O Lord, God Almighty, who is like You? You are mighty, O Lord, and Your faithfulness surrounds You! Psalm 89:8

Great are You Lord, and most worthy of praise. You are to be feared above all gods, for the gods of the nations are idols, but Lord, You made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before You. Strength and glory are in Your sanctuary. Psalm 96:4-6

Prayers for Me

Lord, please help me to trust in You with ALL my heart, and not to lean on my own understanding. But in all my ways to acknowledge You, for You will make my paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

Help me NOT to allow ANY unwholesome talk to come out of my mouth, but ONLY that which is helpful for building others up according to their needs. May my words benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29

Prayers for Skip

Help Skip to fix his eyes and thoughts on things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. Help him to think on things that are excellent and praiseworthy. Philippians 4:8

Help him to be on his guard, to stand firm in the faith, to be a man of courage, strong! 1 Corinthians 16:13

Prayers for Callie

Lord, help Skip and I to train Callie in the way that she should go, so that when she is old, she will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6

Lord, please be the builder of our home, because unless You build it, we labor in vain. Psalm 127:1

“I know of no other single practice in the Christian life more rewarding, practically speaking, than memorizing  Scripture…No other single exercise pays greater spiritual dividends! Your prayer life will be strengthened. Your witnessing will be sharper and much more effective. Your attitudes and outlook will begin to change. Your mind will become alert and observant. Your confidence and assurance will be enhanced. Your faith will be solidified.”   ~Chuck Swindoll
